Vasil Kostin, a PhD candidate at the University of Oxford and graduate of the Third Faculty of Medicine at Charles University, shares his experiences from research and clinical placements at prestigious institutions across Europe, the USA, and beyond – from Harvard University to the Medical University of Vienna and Kenya. Through his own journey, he will show how international mobility opens doors to research collaborations, world-class mentors, and global opportunities. The webinar is aimed at students, postdocs, and recent graduates who are considering their first step abroad but don't know where to start. Lecturer

Vasil is a PhD candidate at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford, where his research focuses on gene therapy in ophthalmology. He graduated from the Third Faculty of Medicine at Charles University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard Ophthalmology AI Lab. During his studies, he undertook 10 international placements – including a humanitarian internship in Kenya, University Hospital Basel, and clinics in Germany, Vienna, Portugal, Switzerland, and Japan. He co-founded the Summer School of Practical Ophthalmology, where he annually teaches students and young doctors from across Europe and connects them with both local and international ophthalmologists and researchers. During his studies, he received a TAČR grant and is a recipient of the Czech Government Award for Talented Students.
